With everything happening in the world right now, it’s easy to get caught in an endless scroll of heavy news, opinions, and distressing updates. While staying informed is important, so is protecting your mental health.
Here are a few ways to set boundaries with social media during triggering events:
✨ Check in with yourself before checking your phone – I keep my social media notifications turned off and only check them at designated times after I’ve checked in with myself. Asking, “Am I in the right headspace for this?” helps me stay mindful about what I’m consuming.
✨ Set time limits – Instead of scrolling throughout the day, I’ve been intentional about when and how often I check updates. Creating space between myself and the constant flow of information has made a huge difference in my mental well-being.
✨ Curate your feed – Mute, unfollow, or filter content that increases your anxiety. It’s okay to protect your peace while still staying engaged in ways that align with your capacity.
✨ Balance input with action – If you feel compelled to stay engaged, channel your energy into tangible action—donating, volunteering, or supporting causes in ways that feel sustainable.
✨ Prioritize rest & joy – For me, listening to audiobooks and podcasts has been a big part of my self-care. I recently finished We Should All Be Millionaires by Rachel Rodgers, and taking that time to focus on personal growth has been a grounding practice. Finding small moments of joy—whether it’s reading, journaling, or stepping outside—can help restore balance.
Your mental and emotional well-being matter. You can care deeply without consuming constantly. Give yourself the grace to step away when needed.
💚 Burn bright, not out. 💚
